In this episode Michelle sits down with Alice from CASPr as part of the Daphne Child “Listen to Us” project. The conversation offers a thoughtful look into how one child understands kindness, friendship, and helping others.

Alice begins by sharing the superpower she would choose. Camouflage. The reason reflects a feeling many children understand. She worries about people talking behind her back and wishes she could see what is being said. The conversation turns toward how hurtful gossip can feel and how kindness and honesty help people solve problems. Rather than staying silent, Alice believes the best response involves asking questions and talking things through.

The discussion then moves to helping others. When asked who she would help in the world, Alice speaks about supporting her family and caring for people. Her future plans reflect the same values. She dreams of becoming a doctor, a vet, and a psychologist. Each role offers a way to help people or animals who need care.

Alice also shares her love of art. She enjoys drawing nature, friends, and people around her. Creativity plays an important part in how she expresses herself.

The episode ends with a message for the world. If Alice held power for a day, she would focus on safety, health, and kindness. She talks about avoiding drugs and smoking, slowing down life, and making choices that keep people safe.

This episode forms part of the Listen to Us series, where children speak about their lives, hopes, and ideas for a better community. Alice’s voice offers a reminder of how clearly children think about kindness, honesty, and helping others.

This project is supported through the Daphne-CHILD programme, a European initiative led by Eurochild and Terre des Hommes and funded by the European Union through the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) programme. The programme supports grassroots organisations across nine European countries that work to prevent violence against children, while ensuring that children themselves participate in shaping solutions.

The campaign will culminate in an advocacy seminar on 15 May 2026 in Dublin, bringing together educators, policymakers, youth organisations and child protection professionals to discuss the key messages emerging from the project and explore how children’s perspectives can better inform policy and practice.

(0:00) So my name is Michelle and I'm here with Alice from Casper and we're part of the Daphne Listen (0:07) to Us project and I'm going to ask you some cool questions. Okay. Do you want to introduce (0:12) yourself first? Hi my name is Alice and I'm very glad to be here and I'm very excited to (0:20) answer the questions. If you could have any superpower what would you choose and why? (0:26) I would say camouflage. Camouflage? Why would you choose camouflage? It's because I'm afraid (0:35) if someone like if my friends were talking behind my back and then I see them going like (0:43) talking behind my back and going somewhere and saying I'll be back in a minute and then I just (0:48) I'm just afraid they're talking about me because when they talk they always look about me point to (0:55) and I wish I would have camouflage so I could just sneak up there and see what they're doing. (1:01) Okay. Because I don't like when people talk behind my backs and I don't know what they're (1:06) saying so I rather just know I know it might hurt my feelings when they say something about me (1:11) but I wish it would be that. Okay it is hard if people talk about us behind our backs isn't it? (1:17) It's nicer to be rather kind yeah people were kind. I would rather either tell them (1:24) why are they doing that or what why are they being mean to me or what are they doing why are (1:30) they doing it for not talking about them saying mean stuff about them. I would just ask them why (1:36) are they doing that and then we can just talk it out. How do you how does it make people feel if (1:41) people talk about them behind their back? Upset. If you could help one person in the world who (1:47) would it be and how would you help them? I would help my family my parents because I really really (1:53) really love helping people. I don't like being mean to them I don't like anything being rude to (2:00) anyone because it just feels my they just when I just be rude to someone it just makes me feel upset (2:06) like treating them like badly. And what do you want to be when you grow up? I want to be a doctor (2:13) a vet. I want to do two three jobs. Yeah. I want to be a doctor a vet and um. Yeah and that they (2:23) are all helping jobs aren't they which one of those jobs do you prefer which one would be your (2:27) top job? I say psychologist. What is the thing that you love to do the most fun thing that you (2:34) love to do? Art and help people. And when you do art what kind of art do you like to do? I like (2:39) doing nature cycling people like my friends draw my friends nicely. I like to do loads of art.(2:49) You're a very good artist I saw your picture that you drew and it was really really good (2:53) you're a very good artist. Is there anything else you would like to tell the world if the world was (2:59) listening if you were like the boss of the world for the day what would you tell the world? No (3:04) smoking no drugs no nothing no electricity scooters or anything maybe like plain scooters. (3:11) Plain scooters? What do you mean by plain oh ones with no electric? Yeah because and no electric (3:18) bikes and nothing just like normal bikes so then you can slow down sometimes it's much better to be (3:26) like careful less electricity because sometimes when you use that electricity it just it just (3:33) goes too fast and you don't know where you're going yet and you just go somewhere you might (3:38) hit someone you might hurt someone or you might get lost. And can you tell me how old you are? (3:43) I'm nine years old I'm turning 10 next year. You're turning 10 next year and you are one of (3:48) the wisest people I have ever met. I think we're done here thank you bye
